Can you answer yes to the following questions?

There’s no doubt that personal statements are highly subjective – what works for one reader might not work for the next. Nonetheless, it’s important to ask whether, in your honest opinion, you’ve presented the strongest possible personal statement.

Is your essay enjoyable and interesting to read? If you were reading this about another person, would they come across strong? Would this be someone you might want as your physician assistant?

Does your essay begin with a strong lead paragraph that inspired the reader to continue?

Does your essay tell a compelling story and describe your experiences instead of just listing what you’d done? Did you support claims about your abilities with anecdotal evidence?

Does your essay describe your contact with PAs? How has your contact with PAs informed your decision to become one?

Does your essay focus on you rather than your projects or mentors?

Does your story demonstrate the key qualities desired in PA students: commitment, compassion, leadership, curiosity, critical thinking, maturity, etc.?

Are there any typos or grammatical errors?

(Optional) What are your greatest strengths as an applicant? What separates you from the pack?

What is your greatest struggle right now with your essay or the application process?

Please include any special instructions or areas of concern you would like us to address while we revise and edit your essay.

What is new since you have reapplied? Admissions folks absolutely want to know what you’ve done to improve yourself as a candidate since your initial application

Please include work, volunteer and even personal growth if that applies. If you’ve added substantially to patient care hours, shadowing, volunteering, please include the number of hours. That can be impressive. Or if you’ve retaken courses, that’s important to note, too.
